Interview(專訪) : aus (Yasuhiko Fukuzono / flau)

http://burnie-macao.blogspot.com/2012/05/flau-night-macau-2012-cokiyu-x-aus-x.html

1.Thanks for taking some time to answer these questions : ) Firstly, How did you start producing music?

my first expeirence of playing music at the age of 4, when my family sent me to attend piano classes. Years later, naturally, I began to compose simple electronic music using a keyboard when i was 13 years old. It was in this four years of toying with a keyboard and a tape recorder, that opened up a whole new dimension in my world of music making.

2.As we know , flau is a famous music label nowadays. So what's the story about the beginning of flau ?

i'm not sure flau is famous or no...haha,flau formed 5years ago. i would like to make the platform for my friend artist. at that time i got many demos from some artists, and i already know many good artist around me like cokiyu, geskia, part timer. so i decided the start of the label.

3.As a music artist, which atrists influence your music most?

mmm, i can't say favorite artists...because acquiring my inspirations from all over the places - images that my mind captured from movies, words that i stumbled upon, pieces of music that drop out from TV and radio, nomadic dreams, long lost memories and indescribable inner feelings.

4. In many Asia cities, the music scene of Electronic are still developing. Do you have any suggestions for the musicians to push things forward?

now anybody makes music really easy, i think most important thing is how we do original stuff that another musician can't do that.

aus / urum .mp4

5.Have you ever been Macao before? How about your impressions of this tiny city? (this question seem to by asked by our Goverment Tourist Office, haha )

no, this is first time, so excited! macau,,,i don't know anything, i trust to get fresh experience from your city.

aus - waltz

6.Do you( and flau ) have any exciting plans in 2012?

this year is our 5year anniversary! so we have many releases like Sylvain Chauveau, Cuushe, Liz Christine, MayMay and 5years anniversary night in several places!

7.Do you have any words to the audiences come to the show "flau Night Macau 8 May 2012 " ?

hello, i'm so happy we can go to Macau and play music for you. if we can share beautiful time with you, it's so great. see you soon!

aus - headphone girl

Interview(專訪) : Whistla (L2S Recordings/Sub FM)

www.L2SRecordings.com

http://www.sub.fm/
Whistla

1.Hi Whistla !!! thanks for taking some time to answer these questions : ) Firstly, How did you start DJing and producing music?

Hi Whistla !!!

I started producing kind of as an extension to playing in various bands back in 92 as I got more and more into dance music and moved away from guitar based music. I was building tracks for about 5 years before I got a set of decks and started djing in 97, beginning on London pirate Addiction FM (which I later went on to help run and set the foundation for running Sub FM) and then moving onto playing in raves like Dreamscape, Raindance, World Dance etc.. and the rest is history :)

2.As we know , L2S Recordings is the most famous record label pushing the "Future Garage" sound. So what's the story about the beginning of L2S ?

I had become disenchanted with the way Dubstep scene was progressing in 2008 and had already started making Future Garage tracks and putting them out on my label at the time, Ox Rider Records. It was from this period that I realised there were a number of other people doing similar changes in there productions and I thought to myself "there's all this amazing music out there that isn't getting released" and so I started L2S at the beginning of 2009.

Whistla - 420 Lockdown

3.Such as me , a music lover of late 90s to early 2000s "UK Garage/2-Step" music, feel so exciting to hear all the tunes of "Future Garage", they are really brand new sounds and guiding the bright future of Garage music. Beside all the brilliant releases from L2S, media (DJ Mag,Mixmag…etc) describe some tunes from producers such as SBTRKT, MJ Cole, Falty DL, Mount Kimbie, Disclosure, even Rusko(the tune "Hold On") are "Future Garage". So what's the true meaning of "Future Garage" in your point of view? Is it a music genre ? a music movement? or…?

I get asked this all the time, you wouldnt believe how much! Future Garage is a movement not a genre, FG is just a starting point not the end destination. It’s a collection of DJs and Producers who wouldn’t fit comfortably in the UKG oeuvre or the Dubstep one. They are somewhere inbetween, and Future Garage is that collection of DJs and Producers. Who knows where it will lead? That is the whole point of Future Garage, to take the best of Garage and inject it with fresh ideas and production techniques to take it into the future! Previously, Garage had become tainted by its past, Future Garage has given it a new fresh chance to develop into the scene it was always supposed to, with the ability now to evolve new strains much like how House and DnB have multiple sub-genres, so too is Garage starting to.

4.As a producer/DJ ,Which atrists influence your music mostly?

This is one of the questions I could list hundreds of artists for haha. Some of my original inspirations are; Satin Storm, 4 Hero, Larry Heard, Todd Edwards, DJ Ratty, Aphex Twin, Pete Namlook, Chris Mac, Steve Gurley... I'll stop there for now haha. Currently I get inspiration from all over the place, pop songs, sounds I hear just going around town, standing in a club not knowing the track at all and just getting the vibe from it, literally everywhere! Some current heads Im really feeling are; Submerse, ENiGMA Dubz & Para.

5. In many cities of Asia, the music scenes of Garage, Bass, Dubstep are still developing. Do you have any suggestions for the musicians to push things forward?

Just keep believing in what you do! Never stop pushing yourself to do better and to do more!

6.Some music lovers in Asia notice the term "Bass Music" . It seem to be a term about some kind of music so hot in recently years. Do you thing "Future Garage" is under the umbrella of "Bass Music" ? Or is it no connection between both of them?

Oh it definitely is, Bass Music is a term I dislike personally as it's SO broad and open, what bpm is it? what kind of vibe is it? deep? tearout? etc... But yes Future Garage definitely sits within the Bass Music spectrum, even tho we also use lots of vocals and melodies, there is always plenty of bass!

Whistla - Knosis

7.Do you( and L2S )have any exciting plans in 2012?

Oh yes! I have an album forthcoming at the start of May which I'm really excited about, and will be touring the full length of the UK to promote it including touching down in Glasgow and Swansea both for the first time! L2S has heaps of releases for 2012 that Im sure are gonna turn some heads, we have a Monz full length LP, new music from Ollie Macfarlane, DYP, DLVRY, Fused Forces & M2J, JLR and literally LOADS more!

8.Maybe someone is full of curiosity and wants to knock at the door of the world of "Future Garage" after reading this interview. So, do you have any recommend to all the beginners (Websites, Releases, Artists, Tunes, etc) ?

Interview(專訪):J Courage (Trenchant Recordings/Trenchant Dubs)

J Courage(Jason Currie)

1. Thanks for taking some time to answer these questions. Firstly, how did you start producing music and DJing?

Music has been at the center of my life since I was a child. I always had music playing no matter what I was doing. As I got older I started collecting records from all of my favorite artists. I guess I began djing as a youth at various house parties. I always felt a desire to control the music and expose my friends to whatever sounds I was discovering at the time. It's always been something that I've enjoyed and continue to enjoy.
As far as production goes, I first started producing music using a variety of vintage synthesizers, drum machines and samplers. Regrettably, I eventually sold all the hardware in favor of a very basic software based studio setup. I began writing and arranging music for a few different bands as an adolescent, but gravitated toward working solo around 2000. I started producing drum n bass and for about 3 years that's all that I worked on. Eventually I started transitioning to UK Garage, and around 2005 switched all my attention to Grime. Since then, my productions have been revolving around Grime and Bass Music. My "sound" is always changing, but I feel like it's all still cohesive. That's most likely because of my limited and stripped down studio equipment.

2.Which artists influence your music mostly?

That has always been a tough question for me to answer. There is so much music over the course of so many years that has influenced me. I would say that the artists that are currently having the most influence over my own production would be Warrior One, Shy FX, Nguzunguzu, and all the early Metalheadz camp (Digital, Lemon D, Ed Rush, Rufige Kru, Dillinja, etc.). I definitely always look back to early Metalheadz releases for inspiration. That music is timeless to me.

J Courage feat. Shizzle - "Too Deep"

3. What's the story about the beginning of Trenchant?

Trenchant Recordings was initially started as the avenue to release my own productions. The first release, J Courage feat. Shizzle - "Too Deep" was a Grime track that had done well on dubplate and digital promo, so I felt it was the right time and the right track to launch the label. Running a label was something that I had always wanted to do. I don't think it's necessarily something I thought I'd follow through or carry on with, but either way, here I am about 4 and a half years and 22 releases later and I'm still doing it.

Shizzle - "Too Deep" 。

DanCa feat. Cherie Harris - "Because Of You"

 4. Although we can check the website(http://www.trenchantrecordings.com)and the Soundcloud, Facebook, Myspace, Twitter pages of Trenchant, would you mind to tell us more about Trenchant Recordings and Trenchant Dubs?

Trenchant Recordings is the sub-label that focuses more on the vocal side of our music. It is home to the more commercial side of our catalog. Our next single on this label will be DanCa feat. Cherie Harris - "Because Of You". This is a track that has an emotional vocal performed by the massively talented Cherie Harris. It's a track that's a bit difficult to categorize, but I would say that it falls somewhere between dubstep, pop music, and electro. We are extremely thrilled and privileged to be putting this amazing single out. The release is going to include an incredible 140 BPM Juke remix from Chicago based producer/dj and member of the esteemed Ghetto Division, DJ Rampage (Nightshifters, Brick Bandits, T&A Records). Release details will be available soon.

DanCa feat. Cherie Harris - "Because Of You"。

Aquadrop - "Deeper"

Trenchant Dubs, on the other hand, is home to our most cutting edge experimental Bass Music. This division of the label is focused on a variety of both up-and-coming and established producers. From early Dubstep releases from Chas10 to the more atmospheric and deep sounds of TKR and Radian, to the current Global Bass sounds of Iamseife, Trenchant Dubs remains committed to exposing music of a more eclectic nature. Many people are now familiar with the incredibly unique sounds of Milan, Italy's, Aquadrop. Aquadrop has been our longest standing artist. He has consistently delivered some of the most innovative music we have released. His most recent release "Deeper" is an epic track, not to be missed. Our next forthcoming single comes from Milan, Italy and features a loved-up groove from Iamseife, appropriately titled "Power Of Soul." It is about to go out on promo, and will feature a heavy remix from forward thinking American Bass/Juke producer, Wheez-ie (Well Rounded, Embassy, Grizzly). Release details also forthcoming on this single. Watch out!

 5. What's your top 5 tunes of all time?

This is a question that is also nearly impossible for me to answer. Here are 5 tunes that have had a major impact on me throughout the years.
1. Nasty Habits - "Shadow Boxing"
2. Bad Company - "The Nine"
3. Jammer - "Destruction V.I.P."
4. Various Production - "Hater"
5. Burial - "Ghost Hardware"

1. Nasty Habits - "Shadow Boxing"
2. Bad Company - "The Nine"
3. Jammer - "Destruction V.I.P."
4. Various Production - "Hater"
5. Burial - "Ghost Hardware"

 6. In many cities of Asia, the music scenes of Grime, Bass, Garage and Dubstep are still developing, do you have any suggestions for the musicians to push things forward?

Great question. In my opinion, the most important thing for the musicians involved in the scene would be to understand where the music came from, and how it has evolved. There has been such an incredible amount of groundbreaking music being created by innovative producers in the last 15-20 years. This is where you'll find the roots of how the music was shaped into what it is today. I feel that in order to truly understand UK based music such as Garage or Grime you can't just listen to the current trends. You really have to dig into the past to the birth of these genres to understand where they evolved from and why they were necessary in the progression of UK music.

7. Do you and Trenchant have any exciting plans in 2012?

Actually, there is a lot of things that will be happening this year. First of all, I'm currently working on new project with Italian vocalist and Aquadrop collaborator, Vanelitne. She is responsible for the vocals on some of my favorite tracks we've released. I'm really looking forward to finally working with her on some of my own productions. I'm confident that this will be some of my best material yet. Also, we will soon be revealing the final sub-label under the Trenchant banner. Trenchant Noir will be the third and final division of the label. It will be home to some of the deepest and darkest electronic music available. There are a lot of things happening and all of them point to the forward progression of the label. We're very excited to follow through with our biggest and best music to date. 2012 is looking to be a great year for the label.
