Downplay Recordings
Burnie should need no introduction to fans of Downplay Recordings, having released on the label through every iteration of it’s ten year development. The Macau-based producer has a genuinely intuitive feel for UK genres, and has had success with several UK Garage releases on prominent labels around thr world. Burnie’s soulful take on the classic sound of the golden age of UKG is always something to behold, vocal-heavy and full of melody.
Downplay is proud to welcome back Burnie to the label with his brand new release, ‘Make It’.
The title track sees the Macau-based producer team up with singer and songwriter Phoenix Ho for a superb slice of sunny UK Garage, with Ho’s soulful delivery perfectly complimenting Burnie’s trademark melodic style. Sprightly piano keys roll with the glittering top-line as a deceptively heavy bassline underpins the track before it unfurls into a proper 4x4 stomper with some clever old skool rave touches.
‘Soul Bubble’ takes a deeper route, with a more laid-back tempo but still packed full of melody. Chopped R&B vocals are liberally sprinkled over the stylish 2-step beat-work, for a classy UKG interpretation that will appeal to the genre connoisseurs.
Label-mate HKG steps up for the remix, transforming ‘Make It’ into a stunning seven-minute odyssey of pure Summer vibes with a pitch-perfect UKG roller that will bring a smile to any raver’s face.
